Today Was A Fairytale

Today is the William and Kate's 3rd year anniversary. Many people wonder why I like the British Royal Family, specifically the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. And many people are probably annoyed that I am writing about them but I do not care. In honor of the Royal Wedding, I am going to attempt to answer the question, "Why do you like them? I mean your American..."

My obsession started in my junior AP history class. We had just finished the AP Exam and still had a few extra weeks of class. So, my teacher assigned us a project. We were separated into two groups, one the 1990's and one the 2000's, and each group had to create a history book on that decade. I was in charge of the events of the 1990's. So I started my research and found out that this woman called "The People's Princess" died in 1997. Wait, wasn't she the mother of those Princes William and Harry? So I decided to do a little more research on her life, and from that moment on I was hooked.

I don't really know what it was. I guess I fell in love with the story. I fell in love with this idea of a young primary school teacher (what I want to do) falling in love with a young prince. I fell in love with the idea of a commoner as princess. Most importantly, I fell in love with this modern day fairytale.

Once I finished my research for the history project, I continued to research William and Harry. I read Katie Nicholl's book, Behind Palace Walls, a book about William and Harry. And of course I fell in love with Prince William. He was the modern day Prince Charming. He was a clean cut guy from a pretty prominent family in Great Britain. Even so, his mother taught him that life was not perfect. He realized that he had a sense of duty at a young age, being the 3rd in line to the throne, and was ready to take that challenge head on. Thus, I fell in love with a prince.

About that same time, I learned that he was dating this girl called Kate Middleton, otherwise known as "Waity Katie" at the time. Just like people despise Jennifer Garner for being married to Ben Affleck, I hated Kate. Then it happened, William proposed to Kate. I guess I could give this girl a chance.
I got the chance to visit St. Andrews this winter!
So I did some research and fell in love all over again. Kate was a typical girl from a upper-middle class family. She did sports as well as theater. She was extremely classy and sophisticated. She took a gap year and decided to attend St. Andrews, instead of The University of Edinburgh (Although some people think that her mom forced her to go to St. Andrews because William was going there, I don't believe that). She was majoring in art history and he was majoring in geography. They were typical high school sweethearts.

And y'all know the rest of the story. They got married April 29, 2011 and just recently had a baby, Prince George. So why do I like them so much? Everyone has role models and I guess William and Kate  are some of mine. I also fell in love with their story. They are everything I want to be and more.

So happy anniversary William and Kate. One of my favorite memories is hosting a Royal Wedding party in my sorority. You also brought me closer to my sorority sisters because of our shared love of the Royal Family. So many of sorority sisters texted me when Prince George was born. I felt like a proud mama :D. So I guess, as irrational as it sounds, Happy Anniversary! I love you both!
